My Favorite High-Speed Blender
/March 25, 2011 is a day I’ll never forget.
That was the day my Vitamix arrived in the mail and I proceeded to spend the rest of the night squealing and taking pictures of it.
For those of you who don’t know, the Vitamix is a super duper high-speed blender. Its 2 peak horsepower motor (1380 watts) is even powerful enough to grind avocado pits! I’m pretty sure my old blender would’ve fallen apart if I had attempted such a feat.
So what's so special about it?
Most of the folks I talk to who have not seen the Vitamix in action have a hard time understanding why I get so excited about it. If you are one of them, check out some of the cooking demo videos from their website which will give you an idea of what makes the Vitamix stand out from the rest of the blenders out there.
In the last few months, I have used my Vitamix to make sauces, almond milk, desserts, and soups. But the main reason I got a Vitamix was to make Green Smoothies. About 3 years ago, I was a Green Smoothie newbie and spinach and bananas were my staples in every creation I came up with. My old blender seemed to handle that combination quite well (or so I thought!), so I had no complaints.
Fast forward a few years...
I got bored with spinach+bananas and as I cleaned up my diet and my taste buds began to appreciate and crave more savory foods (and less sweet ones), my green smoothies changed as well.
I wanted to incorporate other leafy greens into my smoothies besides spinach (e.g. kale, romaine and cilantro) and wanted to trade in my bananas for fruit that contained less sugar (e.g. apples). My old blender was not pleased with the change in ingredients and I was not pleased with the chunky mess it produced. I’m ashamed to admit just how many smoothies I poured down the drain because I simply could not drink them.
I had heard a lot about the Vitamix over the years and my friend who had one (and loved it) offered to let me borrow hers for a few days. Well, one day was all I needed! After I spent the day making smoothie after smoothie in this fun new toy, I was sold. Not only were my smoothies incredibly SMOOTH (which made them incredibly delicious), but I was also very pleased with how quick they were to make and how EASY it was to clean the container. I ordered my Vitamix that night and the rest is history.
I’m pleased to say that Vitamix and I are still very happy together :-)
