Raw Food Detox: Day 4

Raw Food Detox: Day 4

Day 4: Success! That wasn't so bad, now was it? :-)

In true detox fashion, I woke up from another food-related dream (I was ordering food at a rooftop bar) and to another 1.5 lbs released...wow. I do want to emphasize that losing 6 lbs in 3 days is NOT typical, but it does reflect that I made some poor eating choices the prior week (I'm not perfect either!) and the excess weight fell off as soon as I started nourishing my body mindfully with clean foods in the appropriate amounts.

Raw Food Detox: Day 3

Day 3: Success! One more day...

Lost another 2 lbs today (again, unusual...most likely water weight, not fat loss), so now I'm back to the weight I was at before I felt "off balance". Ahh, it's good to be back :-) That's 4.5 lbs of junk that got released from my system...really makes me appreciate starting from a "clean slate" when I'm done with this and be more mindful about what I'm eating so that I avoid feeling off again.

Raw Food Detox: Day 2

Day 2: Success!

When I woke up this morning 10 minutes before my alarm, I was in the middle of a dream about burritos. Actually, it was a burrito buffet. What the heck? I can't remember if I had dreams about food the last time I did this detox, but I couldn't help but laugh as I got out of bed. I don't even eat burritos when I'm not detoxing! Oh the mind is a funny thing.

Raw Food Detox: Day 1

Day 1: Success!

I'm sitting in my bed, lights dimmed, listening to the soothing voices of Amos Lee and Joshua Radin.  I love that hour before bed each night when I'm in full "slow down mode" and am preparing my body for a good night's sleep. Anyways, Day 1 of my Raw Food Detox went really well and I'm looking forward to the next 3 days.

Healthy Potlucks & Raw Detox Prep

Tonight I'm going to a vegetarian/gluten-free potluck and I am excited!  Every couple of months, about 8-10 of my friends get together for a healthy "Rawluck"...that is, a potluck where everyone has to bring a raw dish. That's right, raw. Uncooked. No meat, no grains, no cheese. No ovens or microwaves present.  With the help of raw food blogs, cookbooks, and individual creativity, our rawlucks have been a success.

“Feel the Burn” Green Smoothie

green-smoothie

I just had the best workout and couldn't wait to reward my body with the nutrients it deserved. This smoothie has it all: Leafy greens, protein, antioxidants, everything you need to start your day. Don't be turned off by the green color. It's the color of energy and vitality! Drink up!

“Feel the Burn” Green Smoothie

INGREDIENTS

  • 2/3 cup coconut milk or unsweetened almond milk

  • 2/3 cup water

  • 1 serving protein powder

  • 1 scoop berry greens

  • 1 tbsp cacao

  • 1 cup frozen organic raspberries

  • 1 tbsp cinnamon

  • 8 drops of liquid stevia

  • 2 huge handfuls of kale (I used lacinato or "dinosaur" kale)*

DIRECTIONS

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender in the order listed (it's easier to blend when you put the greens in last).

  2. Blends until smooth

  3. Serve in your favorite glass and enjoy!

*If you are new to adding greens into your diet, use spinach (it's milder than kale) or use 1 huge handful instead of 2. I love the energy boost that leafy greens provide so I like to start my day with as many raw leafy greens as I can. I recommend you do the same! Adding more leafy greens to your diet will curb your sugar cravings throughout the day too.
